Hay House Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback
Hay House is a publisher founded in 1984 by author Louise Hay, who is known for her books on New Thought. Hay House has its headquarters in Carlsbad, California and is (as of 2018) run by Reid Tracy. Hay House describes itself as a "mind-body-spirit and transformational enterprise". Their target audience are readers interested in self-help, personal growth, and alternative medicine.
A Hay House employee wrote this on indeed: Don’t even consider working at Hay House. Management is non existent and when present is extremely rude, nasty and incompetent. Extreme favoritism with certain employees. Nothing to recommend about working here. They suck.
says"Selfish, greedy upper management who don't value their employees."
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"Narcissism runs rampant in the company from senior leadership to the point that even all of these accurate reviews are (or will be) dismissed by them. They don't want feedback on any direction they are choosing to go (which you don't really know what that is anyway because they don't share it with employees) and they don't (and won't) tolerate disagreement with their ideas. The exterior of this company being heart-centered is what devastates you once you're on the inside. You will be verbally abused by certain members of management if you're unlucky enough to be on their team and you will most certainly be grossly underpaid for all that you do. If you ask for a raise, it will be postponed and never fully realized. Your bonus is beyond laughable, if you're able to see the hard numbers on what you've helped the company earn. You will be put on ridiculous deadlines due to inept people who cannot project manage to the point that some people miss having days off or "have to" work on holidays. You will get shocked to hear certain members of management make fun of authors or certain material in meetings. It's cringe-worthy and makes you question why they chose to work there at all. You will have no mobility upward or even sideways in this company. Once you're hired at your role, that's it. (caveat: they are equally notorious for hiring people in one role and then putting them into another one they don't really want) You feel like complaining about valid issues? Don't. You cannot trust your manager and you most certainly cannot trust the HR person who has an inappropriate relationship with management. (translation, they care more about staying friends with management than your best interest or the company's). If you're sensitive, get ready to sit in an environment of negativity and fear that will cripple your well being. It's highly likely you will get pushed to tears at some point and your personal life will suffer from the heaviness of working in this toxic environment. The firings are frequent and sometimes questionable. Know, those who can leave (or have had enough), will leave - so like in Game of Thrones, you can get attached to no one. If you love esoterics, personal development or anything heart-centered and want to keep it that way, do not work here. Unless you just want to throw yourself into an existential crisis or have some nasty karma you need to work out. Then by all means, descend into Dante's inferno."
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"Everything else. This company is run by incompetent people - many of whom don’t have college degrees or proper experience. Most employees here are grossly underpaid, as well. Several of the women in higher up positions are only in them because of how they “know” One of the most influential men of the company. Also, if you’re looking for a place that celebrates diversity, look the other way. And don’t even apply here if you like to push back when people make stupid suggestions (happens often). Oh, and opportunities for growth don’t exist here."
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"Everyone is underpaid and overworked Management took vacations together and updated offices while we were told a no raise. Pathetic and horrible management style. Everyone I worked with has gotten out. DO NOT WORK HERE"
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"Main problem is clueless, unqualified upper management. No communication it's like the blind leading the blind. Many talented people leave due to lack of support, direction and overwork. How unqualified people can stay in the positions they are in is amazing but that's why money is pouring out of the company. Bad decision making and not empowering staff makes for a horrible work experience. Upper management don't even have an idea of what they are selling and who the consumer is. They make fun of them in meetings. Sad end to Louise Hay's legacy."
Former Employee - Project Manager says"What has been said in previous reviews is absolutely accurate in that the executive staff cripples the companies opportunity for true growth, and manipulates the team with favoritism and rewarding the incompetent. Those with good experience, are willing to speak up and offer suggestions, and that would be considered an asset to any other team are chastised and generally leave or are let go. I watched so many good team members come and go in my short time, and it was at the sacrifice of the remaining workforce who was always tasked with taking on the extra workload, whether qualified or not. In any other business most of the upper management would be found out for the lack of true experience, knowledge, or professionalism that they exhibit. There is no opportunity for growth or promotion as their are only two levels of staffing outside of the executive team who has been there long-term and are all very close friends."
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"For a company that is supposed to be about enlightenment and spiritual philosophy, the management prove to be the antithesis of what they stand for. The management is petty, back-stabbing, highly unskilled, unprofessional and unethical; the most dysfunctional group of people I’ve ever encountered! Favoritism, nepotism and bad morale run high. Vast amounts of money abused for the top management’s travel and expenses while the employees aren’t given their fair share in wages or bonuses or even basic respect. Competence is irrelevant. Anyone with talent is demoralized, minimized and degraded for fear of exposing the management’s lack of talent. Your contributions and hard work are meaningless. Speaking up to your concerns or opinions are met with punishment and work abuse. It was a soul crushing experience. Management is a charade and does not practice any of the ideals they are selling. They don’t care about employees and fail horribly in managing."
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"Upper management is legacy. All 5 of them in the US office are unqualified for their positions and would be mid level at any other company. Favoritism and egocentrism are rampant among mgmt at this place. New ideas, questioning, or push back of any kind on current processes is not appreciated and can get you fired. Very, very, very slim opportunity of advancement. Promises of salary increases or bonuses once this or that happens are popular but never upheld. Company pays their mid and base level employees non-profit wages while higher mgmt are collecting for-profit salaries--capitalizing on confused, troubled consumers who have more issues than the same regurgitated books and webinars can solve. Hay House led a relevant movement back in the 80s but the company is a tired shadow of those days now with Louise totally out of the picture. Beware of the trap this place lays."
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"As soon as the management team sees that you have talent and influence, they will begin to minimize and degrade you since they can't have anyone talented around them - it exposes how weak they are and how much real influence they lack."
says"Where to start! Company isn't doing well financially, most people have been let go or pushed so far with long hours and lack of support that they quit. Company has lost 15% of its people in last 2 years. Management doesn't care about employees who are doing all the work, just in themselves. Figurehead Louise Hay hasn't interacted in a meaningful way with the employees in years, didn't even attended last employee Christmas party, has no voice any more. Very sad as this is her company she started nearly 30 years ago and public thinks she is still in charge. Authors try their best, most have good intentions, many however have moved on, leaving management to hire more of what they prefer: authors who focus on money making schemes, make a lot of money and you can be spiritual too! Management have a few favorites and it feels like high school over there. No communication, just keep your head down. Observed new hires with great technical savvy want to make a difference but weren't listened to, so they left. Company is a shell of its former self."

Published Author (Former Employee) says"Hay House was not very helpful when I wrote my book. They promised things that they could not deliver on. They also did not get my royalty statements to me on time. I had to ask for them."
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) says"The compensation was good, management was horrible and the customers there are a little different. Given that it is a tarot card based company with spiritual healers. They did have some very positive things/ products that they put out.flexible hoursworking in a cubicle"
Event Planner (Current Employee) says"The company's work environment is great and the people here are all wonderful to work with. Depending on your supervisor/director, the work-life balance can be great, but with a lot of turnover, work gets piled on quickly with little to no relief. If you're looking to move your way up quickly, this is not the place for you. If you're happy having a regular schedule with long weekends, this is a great place.4-day work weeks, causal environment, access to great booksLittle to no mobility, very small raises and few promotions available/given"
Doug says"This company appears to be a scam site. Without any warning I have started getting at least 1 spam email per day from this company. I never gave them permission to spam me. They do not appear to honor requests to unsubscribe. Avoid this company!"
Paul Venn says"I made a purchase 6 weeks ago and only received half the order. (all items were in stock) I have received NO customer service. I have sent 3 emails!!! and nothing!! They owe me £18.00. The only option left is to open a dispute and claim back of PayPal. the worst transaction and poor customer service ever!!"
Darice says"Hay House is smearing their reputation by continuing to use Balboa Press for publishing books!! I write this review here about Balboa Press because Balboa operates in conjunction with Hayhousek, at least that is what they both say. I trust Hayhouse. have purchased many books and services from them in the past so I trust their brand and trusted their publisher Balboa Press. BUT! DO NOT publish your book with Balboa thinking you will be protected or receive professional service because it operates under Hay house!I I decided to use Balboa Press to publish a memoir. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to cancel my agreement with them before we even really got started. Roadblocks, lack of communication about what I can have in my memoir, I was told I need a power of attorney for ALL people mentioned in the book, lack of clarity on issues and poor customer service, meant I simply couldn't work with them a couple of weeks in... now they will not refund the first deposit I gave them, even though all they did was scan my first couple of chapters and tell what I need to do to change the book before proceeding. I am very disappointed. I have my first book published with them, which I published five years ago, and it has done nothing in terms of sales, due to poor editing, and so I have removed it from their website. I will rewrite the book using a different company that is more professional and not just trying to get my money."
Peter Taylor says"Very poor service. I ordered two boxes of cards on the 20th February and after repeated emails and now 9th of March nothing. Took my money quick enough, and now telling me if not delivered by the 13th of March I should go to the post office sorting office and check. Really surprised that a company like this should act in this way. I will stay well clear in future. Peter Taylor"
Lolli Pop says"If I could would give a zero. Anthony the Medium publishes his books out of this company. Was a big fan purchased books followed his diets very carefully. I had a major health crisis and wanted any help he could provide. Well it became complicated. He was asking for my medical history and Dr's diagnosis to give help? Wouldn't he make his own as promised? Gave it to him reluctantly and immediately there was a fee under the guise of a donation.100.00 US. for a bogus charity Brazil. Words in that email were misspelled. A red flag! I received at least three more emails telling me "I had a money request" I sent the money under pressure as he would not make contact without fee. He stated within about 4 weeks he would set up a realistic plan. Never happened! After about 8 weeks all I got were rude emails, Finally stating "here is a song"for phase One and next week Phase Two.I would have a realistic plan. Never came and finally after many emails he sent me 2 Sentences reiterating or plagarizing my Doctors history word for word. I asked him if this was really him? No answer just a barrage of again rude emails accusing me of giving a donation and requesting it back. Not so! They were intimidating and rude. For someone who continues to say publicly that "I receive no monies for my work nor request it" my medical practitioner asks "then why is he asking for donations" Furthermore many people on his blogsI I requested information from asked how he could do any medium work by email without talking to client. They were so helpful as he had not been. Trust completely severed as If I had continued waiting on this Mediums bogus plan I could have died. Although bad things that happen to people don't define them as a person this certainly defines this medium in a bad aura. Buyer beware!!!!!!!!!"
